This post throws a whole color guard of flags for me starting with the comment:
I have become increasingly interested in examining Joss Whedon’s work from a feminist perspective since I had a conversation with another lesbian feminist sister at the International Feminist Summit about whether Joss was a feminist.
It goes about where you’d expect it […]

I was home sick this last week so to kill some time I rented Mass Effect. From the get-go, fantastic game! Lots of options to customize your character, good controls that ween you into them, fun story, blah blah blah… Then I got about 45 minutes into it and hit the first timed portion of […]

Finally just finished watching/re-watching the first season of Smallville. A few observations:
There’s a whole lot more killing and violence in this than I remember.
Lana sucks.
Whitney is sooooooo lame.
Pete is far under-utilized.
Monster-of-the-week really doesn’t work for this show, it ends up feeling X-Files lite and doesn’t have the metaphor punch that Buffy gets from it.
It’s fun […]

This issue helps to explain SOME of the stupid from the last 2 issues but it does nothing to alleviate any of the suck. This is some seriously bad comics…
Oh, and one minor gripe among many many more important ones: has Wolverene being known as “James” been mentioned ANYWHERE in the Ultimate universe ever?? And […]

My drive-through take out from Taco Bell today came with an after-dinner mint and a wet nap.

Dexter has been improving with each episode and the supporting cast in the first 3 on this disc seemed to be moving towards being actual characters rather than collections of character quirks. Also the rising tension of the seemingly impending discovery and capture of Dexter was very engrossing. Then we hit the 4th episode here […]

Beautifully shot, but ultimately boring and cliched teen thriller with just enough “else” going on with the characters to keep your background interest. Makes me think this is what Elsewhere was trying to do but failed miserably at… Also, Elisha and Camilla are SUPER cute and both still very worth keeping an eye out for.

Badly CG-animated lizards, farting and dancing to “Thriller” with BioncĂ© Naomi Campbell is a terrible way to market a new mineral water…
UPDATE: Also, panda bears speaking in horrible Chinese accents is not funny, in any kind of way. At all…

I went and saw The Golden Compass on Sunday. Really quite good and I’m looking forward to (I hope) the eventual sequels.
Here’s the strange thing… There were just 2 trailers before the movie started. One for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and one for Sex and the City. I’m not entirely sure which is […]
